Experience the Internet, IRL.
‘The User is Present’ (TUIP) is a two and a half minute multi-screen, site-specific installation that physically envelops the viewer in the Internet. Here, on the floor of UTS room 103.02.02, online and offline worlds collide. Shattering the myth of the private and personal, the isolated screen of anonymous comments, irresponsible consumption and incognito search engines; TUIP places six strangers together to collectively confront both the funniest and darkest corners of the World Wide Web. Reconstructing the line between consumer and producer, this rich sensorium of human networks – TUIP –forces people to acknowledge that they too are responsible for the content adrift in the digital ether. Indeed, in 2015, there is no space between real or digitised. We live online – insatiably.
